ABOUT THE PRODUCT:
Reducing the rotating mass of parts in or attached to the engine free up horsepower. This modification will not provide you with a drastic increase in power but it is a great piece of the naturally aspirated V8 power puzzle when coupled with our other bolt on upgrades. If you're looking for some feedback on these units, feel free to search any of the online Audi forums, specifically in the B6-B7 S4 sections where we have had many customers run these units for years! INSTALLATION NOTES:
When installing this pulley it is a great time to replace your drive belt. We sell these as well here in this section. It is important that you notice how tight your stock belt is prior to removal to gain access to the pulley. If you do not tighten it at least as tight as the stock belt was it will slip and squeal. Also note that one bolt hole has a dowel in the stock pulley and must be removed and inserted into the JHM pulley. Then the JHM Lightweight Pulley can only go on one way. Torque all bolts to 20 ft lbs in a star pattern. We also recommend using Loctite.

- A MUST for supercharged B8s especially!
-
I have a 2011 S5 4.2 automatic with the APR Stage III twin screw supercharger. I'm the third owner; got the car at about 68k and apparently it's had the APR kit since around 25k. It's now at almost 100k and has been rock-solid reliable as a daily driver. One of my few complaints, however, has been the "laggy" shifts from 1-2 and 2-3, especially under docile light throttle around-town "comfort mode" driving conditions. In the shift, the engine would feel like it "bogged" down for a second as the transmission shifted and tried to drag down the engine's RPMs, but the inertia of eight cylinders PLUS the added rotating mass of the supercharger really fought the shift. It's reportedly a noticeable issue with the N/A V8s, made even more pronounced by the addition of the supercharger. My engineering background indicated to me that I might want to search for ways to shed some of that rotating mass.
In searching for a solution, I came across this product, and specifically the review above from Martez. It gave me enough hope to give it a try. The ECS dual pulley youtube video was quite helpful in walking me through the process for placing the front of the vehicle in service position (an absolute must... otherwise you'll have less than an inch of clearance between the faces of the pulleys and the radiator fans)... once that was done, the rest of the install was fairly straightforward. I've been driving with the mod for a few days, and I must say, it did NOT disappoint! I haven't noticed a huge power increase or anything, but honestly wasn't expecting to (considering the car is sitting with 540+ HP already). What I did notice, however, was that the shifting has smoothed out considerably. I am probably hyper-sensitive to it, so I would notice it more than most... but even so, it is only noticeable under very specific conditions (i.e. apply part throttle from a stop, then let up just as it's shifting 1-2.. you almost have to TRY to make it lag). Considering this is not only my daily driver, but also a car my wife takes on occasion - and this shift lag was her biggest complaint - I couldn't be happier with how well the product has worked in my application.
Thanks, JHM, for another great product for our Audis! (Posted on 6/24/2019) - I can honestly say this modification is a MUST!!! Significant increase in torque and frees up horsepower. By replacing the stock pulley with the JHM crank pulley, you'll be eliminating 5lbs of rotating mass off of the motor, therefore, increasing drivability and performance. Shifts are smooth from 1st to second, no more jerking. When paired with the JHM solid shift rod and short shifter, you can't go wrong. GREAT PRODUCTS!!! (Posted on 4/18/2016)
