Why 2.75 Inch piping diameter? After much research, calculations, testing and development we found that based on the 4.2L 32v V8 engine's demands, 2.75 Inch piping diameter is the optimal size. With a 2.5 inch exhaust you end up choking off the RS5's free spinning and high-revving V8. We have also found with a 2.75 inch cat back that torque is not sacrificed for power gains in the top end of the RPM band.
Why an X-pipe? Naturally Aspirated V8s always make more power with an X-pipe. The location and size of the X-Pipe in the JHM B8-RS5 Cat-Back Exhaust System has been meticulously researched and developed to produce the best scavenging of the exhaust pulses coming from either side of the motor. The location of our X-Pipe also gives the 32-valve V8 motor a cleaner, more refined tone.
Gasket Matched Flanges: The stock headers on the B8-RS5 are a LARGER diameter than the stock downpipes. This creates a flow restriction and hinders performance. This is because the exhaust gas is forced into smaller diameter piping. Additionally, this transition from larger to smaller diameter piping is not a smooth transition. The smaller diameter of the stock downpipes introduces a wall that the exhaust gasses must first run into before being able to transition creating turbulence. With our JHM Gasket Matched Flanges and the larger diameter of our 2.75" exhaust piping, there is no longer hindrance in exhaust flow allowing optimal exhaust flow for optimal performance gains.

- Makes car sound more like it should
I just had this installed (June 2019). I just upgraded from an S5 that had an AWE Track exhaust installed. Getting the stock RS5, I really missed that sound. Also, it sounded like I was just driving some nice sedan. I could barely hear the exhaust.
Installing the JHM exhaust makes things right. You can hear the exhaust now, and it's so nice that it's fully compatible with the stock valve open/closing function. It can be nice and quiet.
I couldn't tell from the video how loud, or not, it was inside the car. It is like he describes. It's loud when you floor it, but can be barely noticeable if just cruising.
However, no matter what mode you're in, when it starts up, it give a nice 'here I am' burst. (Posted on 6/25/2019)
- Installed the JHM exhaust a few weeks back and wanted to jump in and offer my $0.02:
This system is a complete game changer. Now obviously, your taste in exhaust note/tone is a personal preference but every system I've heard for the RS5, with the exception of AWE, was too raspy for my taste. I wanted this car to sound like the exotic V8 it is and after watching the vids and having a quick conversation with Jake at JHM, I was convinced. And I'm happy to report that the sound is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Deep, throaty and plenty of volume. Passing through the 5K to 7K RPM range the car sounds like a friggin' Lamborghini. With regard to power gain, butt dyno says 20-30 HP - just my uneducated guess but a definite and noticeable difference. The throttle responsiveness is much improved as well. (Note: I have no other mods but plan to spring for the Eventuri intake and keeping my eyes on a potential JHM tune.) With regard to build quality, the shop that services my car services high end exotics daily. This was the first time the techs here had seen the JHM exhaust and the lead tech was very impressed on construction and sound.
Lastly, the customer service I received from JHM was second to none. The system was packaged neatly and I received it 3 weeks earlier than the quoted ship date. Needless to say, I'm very happy with the choice I made.

- Amazing sound - completely transforms the car!
Overall, very happy with how this sounds and performs. In my opinion, the car sounds more like an F1 car or an R8 now, very exotic and very different (in a good way). The valved system is a must have as there is a fair amount of drone and vibration in the cabin around 1700-2000rpm in sport mode, but on the highway, at 70mph it’s not too bad. With the valves closed, at cruising and highway speeds it's hardly noticeable.
In my honest opinion, there is a stark contrast between sport and valves closes .... which is really what an RS is about. It’s very loud in the cabin in sport, and quite tame in valved mode (slightly louder than the factory sports exhaust). Even when driving in automatic and putting the shifter into sport mode with the downshift burbles feels like you’re transformed into a different car ... I’m very impressed. (Posted on 5/25/2018)
